BURGERMEISTER – BARBQ BURGER w/ CHEESE

Oberbaumstr. 8, 10997 Berlin, Germany, Kreuzberg

Burgermeister, quite simply the most talked about burger establishment in Berlin, maybe for its spectacular burgers but more over for its quirky venue, an old disused public toilet situated underneath the metro tracks of U1.

Now it’s exactly as it sounds, an 8 meter by 3 meter metal shack tucked away underneath the noisy U1 metro tracks, curb side to the busy Kreuzberg traffic intersection. All of the above just adds to the authenticity of the experience.

With 5-6 burgers to choose from, there isn’t lack of choice, especially with the option to add ingredients at your own will for a small fee. I chose the Bar – B – Q burger with cheese –

((Beef patty, bacon, cheese, BBQ sauce and various farm-to-burger salad))

Considering the setting, the burger tasted very organic. Other than the mass of fat that excreted from the patty, it all seemed proper and thought through. Each individual ingredient carried its own flavour, and you could taste that. Normally with burgers, individual ingredients lose their flavour amongst the rest, normally if it’s a weak choice of ingredients, but this was different. These ingredients are a just a handful that I’ve had 100x on burgers but this was the most uniquely ordinary burger I’ve ever eaten.

For the price and experience you get, it’s a MUST that you eat here if you are visiting Berlin. Burger Rating 9.5 out of 10.

I’d like to thank my very good friend Alex Jones (spottedradiator) for insisting that I visit Burgermeister upon my arrival in Berlin. No regrets.

ALMOST FAMOUS – DOUBLE WONDER BURGER

– Great Nothern, Peter St, Manchester

Manchester cradles an enormous range of restaurants and more importantly dedicated burger restaurants. While searching for the greatest burger, I’ve eaten in most of these restaurants and Almost Famous is quite simply the king of the bunch.

After a year of chipping away at the Almost Famous menu, unfortunately I’m only left with 3 burgers out of 10 yet to try. So, the Double Wonder Burger was under the spot light on this occasion.

((Cheddar, American Cheese, Bacon, Wonder Onions, Pickles, French’s Mustard, English Mustard, Bacon Ketchup, Pepper Mayo))

As you can read from the ingredients, there are 3 different types of sauces on this burger, which practically is a disaster but with flavour in my mind, maybe not. The flavour of the Double Wonder Burger surprisingly did work, but the sauces did overpower many of the other ingredients which was expected. Also, the amount of sauces did destroy the structural integrity, which is always disappointing.

The meat as always was soft and tender, something Almost are very capable at doing. The fries were outstanding and the generic Almost Famous surroundings are as prominent and unique as ever. Burger rating – 6.8 out of 10.

MUD CRAB DINER – 2nd BEST CHEESEBURGER

– 521-523 Ecclesall Rd, Sheffield S11 8PR

My best friends birthday weekend was well underway on it’s second day, in the great city of Sheffield. After planning a well structured weekend, meant each day was used to its highest potential, with rock climbing, alcohol, shopping and lots of food all tightly packed into 3 autumnal days.

Mud Crab Diner, which is situated on the busy street of Ecclesall Road offers a smart/casual vibe with a wide variety of food and drinks. The 2nd Best Cheeseburger caught my eye immediately on their oddly confusing menu.

((Thick & juicy, double ground flat iron steak burger with mature cheddar, lettuce, tomato, aioli, club sauce and pickle))

I seem to be subconsciously eating a lot of steak burgers recently. I did have certain opinions about them, but that seems to be turning around.

Everything about this burger spoke upperclass, the sauces, the bread, the quality and taste of the steak patty. This burger really was well prepared with a multitude of flavours and textures that I’d never come across before, which at this point really makes the difference.

The 2nd Best Cheeseburger is more like the 8th Best Cheeseburger, but good effort though. Burger Rating; 7 out of 10

STEAK ‘N SHAKE – WESTERN BBQ N’ BACON

– 14, Frodsham St, CH1 3JL, Chester

Climbing and burgers come hand in hand after a hard(ish) week of work and this week is no different. Like any other Friday evening Steak ‘N Shake is the bearer of our rich and flavoursome dinner.

Steak ‘N Shake feels like an anomaly to myself, there are a handful of different attributes that make it unique, and that’s why my friends and I like it so much.

On this return it’s the Western BBQ N’ Bacon burger that’s caught my Burger eye and what a great choice it turned out to be.

((Double steakburger, American cheese, bacon, diced and crispy onions, sweet ‘n smokey BBQ sauce))

With four of my very favourite ingredients on the burger, my expectations were high and it didn’t disappoint. As always the steak from Steak ‘N Shake was cooked to a level where it falls apart in your mouth, making it an effortless pleasure and with the burger being very easy to handle, there was no work involved.

To finish off the package, the crunch of the diced and crispy onions were softened by the sweet ‘n smokey BBQ sauce, which was smothered on all corners of the steak patty.

As a collective with the food, the service and the portion size considered, this burger receives a respectable 8.1 out of 10
Well done Steak ‘N Shake, I’ll see you next time.

POP’S PLACE – SILVERTON BURGER

 – Cankarjevo nabrežje 3, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia

Slovenia, Ljubljana is as charming as a city can be. The surroundings, the people, the man made river that runs right through the heart of the city and the faultless weather, you can’t ask for anything more.

With a few days of exciting activities ready to begin, It was lunch time on the first day and a burger sprung to mind. Pop’s Place was situated on the river on a busy side street with large awnings to save you from the hot weather.

A quick scan over the menu and the Silverton Burger caught my attention. The Silverton Burger–

((Custom beef blend, crispy onions, cheddar cheese, home-made BBQ sauce, signature brioche bun))

I am the first person to give recognition to a restaurant who has clearly crafted each individual burger to provide the best possible product to their customers. This is what I feel Pop’s Place has done here, or attempted at least.

This burger sounded like it should of blown me away, but it didn’t quite get there. The bread was weak, the meat was undercooked (for me) and there was too much sauce. But, the bacon was shredded into small chunks which sunk into the melted cheese and not forgetting the onion ring, possibly the nicest I’ve had to date.

I’ve come to the point in my blogging career that I feel it a necessity that I consider all aspects. Service, surroundings and effort in the production have been taken into consideration, giving this of burger a rating of 7.4 out of 10.

SUBMARINE BURGER – ORIGINAL

– Frankopanska 11, Croatia

Croatia, another new country that I’m able to tick off my list and another new exciting burger. Eating burgers all around the world gives you the sense that they’re one of the few things that we all have in common.

A very bold branded burger bar stood proud on one of the busy retail streets and with an enticing menu, we sat down anticipating good things. Welcome to Submarine Burger (Formerly; Yellow Submarine)

Original;

((Brioche bun, patty, submarine sauce, lettuce and onion))

As you can see from the above stated ingredients it’s a very simple burger. With calculated intentions, I chose this as I feel a burger restaurant is only as good as its simplest burger, so I was excited to see what can be done.

A suspiciously quick turn around time, from ordering and receiving our food meant we were stunned before anything was even eaten.

The burgers golden exterior was aesthetically pleasing but it’s internal structure did present a few issues. The amount of submarine sauce did overwhelm other important ingredients and made the burger quite slippery. Considering the deliciousness of the submarine sauce this wasn’t such a terrible thing.

The bread and meat were beautiful, and knowing everything is 100% organic, you feel that little bit better about indulging on such a guilty pleasure.

Coming to a comprehensive rating of this burger, I considered the service and also the wholesome attributes that submarine burger promote. A solid burger rating of 8 out of 10.

ZING BURGER & CO – BBQ BURGER

– somewhere in Budapest, Hungary.

After being in Budapest for a long 5 hours, an introductory burger felt almost mandatory, which brought us to an area of street food named Karaván

There was a lot of abstract and unorthodox foods within the confines of Karaván, which gave you a good sense of what type of foods the Hungarians like to dine on. But tonight I only have eyes on the promising looking burgers from Zing Burger & Co.

The BBQ Burger was the unsuspecting choice;

((Chilli mayo, caramelised onion, patty, cheddar, bacon, BBQ sauce, pickles))

Quite simply all I’m going to do here is sing this burgers praises, all the ingredients were extremely flavoursome with beautiful textures. The patty was cooked well done, which sat well with both sauces making the burger pleasant from all areas and the bread was second to none, which we all know is important.

Apart from the wait time, which was around 15 – 20 minutes and considering the price 1390HUF (£3.90) this burger was a game changer in Budapest.

Burger rating: 9.2 out of 10
