POP’S PLACE – SILVERTON BURGER

 – Cankarjevo nabrežje 3, 1000 Ljubljana, Slovenia

Slovenia, Ljubljana is as charming as a city can be. The surroundings, the people, the man made river that runs right through the heart of the city and the faultless weather, you can’t ask for anything more.

With a few days of exciting activities ready to begin, It was lunch time on the first day and a burger sprung to mind. Pop’s Place was situated on the river on a busy side street with large awnings to save you from the hot weather.

A quick scan over the menu and the Silverton Burger caught my attention. The Silverton Burger–

((Custom beef blend, crispy onions, cheddar cheese, home-made BBQ sauce, signature brioche bun))

I am the first person to give recognition to a restaurant who has clearly crafted each individual burger to provide the best possible product to their customers. This is what I feel Pop’s Place has done here, or attempted at least.

This burger sounded like it should of blown me away, but it didn’t quite get there. The bread was weak, the meat was undercooked (for me) and there was too much sauce. But, the bacon was shredded into small chunks which sunk into the melted cheese and not forgetting the onion ring, possibly the nicest I’ve had to date.

I’ve come to the point in my blogging career that I feel it a necessity that I consider all aspects. Service, surroundings and effort in the production have been taken into consideration, giving this of burger a rating of 7.4 out of 10.

MCDONALDS – BACON CLUBHOUSE DOUBLE

– Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet, Ellesmere Port

I can confidently admit that I like McDonald’s, not love, not adore, like. McDonald’s attractiveness stems from its reliability, convenience and price. You can’t ask much more from a fast food restaurant.

New and sometimes temporary additions are added to the menu for seasononal purposes and/or just to boost sales, the most recent is the Bacon Clubhouse Double

My first and last impression was, it’s like a BigMac wearing a tutu and that’s about it. Taste and texture were pretty standard which is McDonald’s forte, but appearance and structure were not thought through.

Any of McDonald’s long running burgers are neat, trim and built with flawless structure but this can’t be said for the Bacon Clubhouse Double. The soft unusual brioche bun gave no reliability to the mass of messy ingredients that spewed out, lets leave brioche out of this McDonalds.

Unfortunately I can’t recommend this burger but what I can recommend, is sticking to the long running, average priced, reliable burgers. You can’t go wrong there. Burger rating: 4 out of 10.

SOLITA BAR & GRILL – DOUBLE BACON CHEESE

– Turner St, Manchester M4 1DW

Hidden in one of the not so colourful corners of the Northern Quarter (NQ), is a bar&grill called ‘Solita’. This ‘gem’ of a burger restaurant came to light through a recommendation to myself & what a brilliant one it was aswell.

The personal table service and quirky decor fell example to what was expected from the never ending menu with 15 mouthwatering burgers to choose from. So much so, I found it difficult to decipher which burger I wanted to experience this time. The obvious choice would have been their signature burger which includes a double steak patty, trifecta brioche bun, all the trimmings and a special sauce named ‘Big Manc Sauce’, derived from the burgers name being ‘The Big Manc’, unfortunately not this time.

Purely through timing and preference I decided on the ‘Bacon Double Cheese’, a common choice for myself but always a good one. Barely given the chance to enjoy awaiting the arrival of the ‘Bacon Double Cheese’ burger, it arrived. Presentation was to a minimum, but the taste went beyond its exterior. I then devoured the burger, the beef was extremely tender with the melted cheese hanging over the sides, all between a brioche bun, which was large but was easily made compact for easy eating.

The thinly cut/unpeeled chips were the perfect side to accompany the burger, with a not so overwhelming piece of bacon, cooked in an unknown sweet-like substance, still puzzled to what it was or what they were trying to do.

Overall, I walked out of ‘Solita’ satisfied with the intent to revisit to experience many more of their creations.
